San Buenaventura State Beach Park

About the Pooch Parade:

The Pooch Parade originated thirteen years ago and is a celebration of love for all dogs. The walk is a beautiful three mile round trip along the Ventura Beach Promenade, and yes, the dogs are walking their people in long lines of smiles.

The walk is a fundraiser to support dog rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and dog owner education programs undertaken by the Canine Adoption and Rescue League (C.A.R.L.).

As a Walk-a-thon, walkers gather donations by obtaining sponsors to underwrite their three mile dogwalk in the Pooch Parade.

About Canine Adoption and Rescue League:

Canine Adoption and Rescue League (C.A.R.L.) is a Ventura County non-profit organization rescuing dogs and educating dog owners. Almost entirely run by volunteers since 1996, C.A.R.L. has served over 5,000 dogs in crisis and helped place over 3,000 dogs into loving homes. Our first step in growth was a small rescue organization that evolved to "Sam's Place", C.A.R.L.'s own adoption center.

But as we walked together to save these dogs, our community outreach grew, adding new needs. As a result, in 2005, we purchased a kennel which houses 150 dogs and cats, of which one (1) acre is dedicated to C.A.R.L.'s Burnice Kraemer Sancturary, a place where we can provide shelter to dogs who do not have temporary foster homes.
